The Charitable Fund of First Congregational Church
A few members of First Congregational Church began the Charitable Fund over 30 years ago. Those members wanted to create a fund that would produce income that would be given to charities within Elkhart County for humanitarian purposes and not for facilities improvement. In order to avoid any possibility of the church spending the principal of the fund, it was given to the Elkhart County Community Foundation (ECCF) with the provision that the income would be distributed by a board of the church made up of officers who are elected annually and five additional members of the church. The amount of money available for distribution depends on the success of the investment strategy of the ECCF and the amount of money in the fund. Contributions to the fund can be made by anyone at any time. The total distribution was nearly $80,000 in 2013.
